So… we had a show a couple nights ago, and it didn’t quite go according to plan…

We (I’m not entirely sure if I mean Sai & Eve or a more collective performer we) don’t often reveal much about the shit that goes wrong. As it’s going wrong we do our best to perform over the top of it, to keep the show pretty for the audience… then we go home and privately deconstruct, to keep shaping the work so that next run it is closer to our vision. As professional performers we probably won’t share our failures online - we want to present our peak moments so that we get more gigs.

But what happened last night was FASCINATING, and speaks to the moment, and reveals much about our artistic process. And we want to share that, the personal meanings and material of our performances.

It was a queer gig, so we already wanted to ensure we were fucking with gender. And there’s 62 million reasons why we ESPECIALLY didn’t want to reproduce the normative gender power dynamics that are so common in shibari.

We had a simple but cool concept, Eve beginning as a chrysalis, Sai weaving a web around her from the chrysalis ropes and then raising her aloft as the spider queen before joining her, inverted. After the mating Sai falls to the ground, lifeforce spent…

Simple right? Way toooo simple.

Our performances are not theoretical, they are deeply spiritual and embodied. Before each show we enter a connective ritual space together, and also open ourselves to the energies that need to flow. Our pieces are often shaped by what is moving in the world, and we offer our vessels to channel that, to tap into deeper mythic substructures and core ancestral woundings.

It was wildly silly of us to think we could enact such a simple transfer of power whilst reverberating with these themes. Instead a messy, furious power struggle emerged. Still utterly grounded in love and trust, but low key harrowing for both of us as we transited deep and complex internal and interconnected journeys.

When we deconstructed what had happened these shadows emerged. And y’know what? It was weirdly healing. To name it. Our frustration at a self perceived ‘bad show’ shifted as we recognised the impossibility of creating a nice pretty package of millennia of gender trauma.

And now, in hindsight, that show feels powerful, but not in a simple, palatable way. It was messy and furious and loving and all the things we actually are right now in a world on fire.

Collaborations are our desire for this year, to create more art with others as well as add some variety and longevity to our performances. As all rope bottoms know Shibari can be incredibly hard on the body, and we have a limitation on how many times we can perform in a period. But with collaborators, the options for both wild new configurations as well as more frequent performances open up!

Sai has also been diving into rope installation space, and the flow state from tying for 2-3 hours straight on a large structural basis is quite something…. And we can only imagine how the structures felt during and after the untie…

BARBA SANTA REVIEW!

Speaking of, we did an amazing 3 some tie with Himboy Ropes at Barba Santa last week, it was hot as fuck and we’re very excited about showing you what happened once the official photos come through! It was also the first large scale eco / rope art installation that Sai and Eve created together, and it was actually amazing.

ORIGAMI

Sai Jaiden Lillith teamed up with Ava Angel for Funhaus Factory’s ORIGAMI show, which was in the stunning Japanese Gardens at Gosford Regional Arts centre! The visuals and artists there were amazing, the gardens were transformed into a night time psychedelic wonderland! Special mention to Yo Oo Ya for their off the wall musical shenanigans and goose wielding.

We were terrible and didn’t get any selfies, but here’s the rope installation! :) Stay tuned for official photos!

We’re going to be starting a Patreon very soon for a special project that we’re embarking on, as well as a repository for our art shoots! It will be a membership view page but we’ll keep costs as low as possible for general viewing. Details will be coming soon, and we’ll publish selections from our full backlog of photos over time!

Eve X has made no secret of their chronic illness - in fact this informs much of our praxis and structure of our shows. Much of the time we don’t forward plan a highly choreographed show because we must be highly adaptive in the face of what a meat suit will and won’t accept on any given day. Anyone who suffers from chronic physical health conditions knows how quickly your ability can turn on a dime.

We’ve been on a very long run of monthly performances and touring schedules, along with parenting for the past 3 years. Over time this has taken a toll, and a recent traumatic incident at an event has sealed our conviction to step back and gather our resources, turn our attention to creating digital art as well taking a well deserved mental and physical break.

However! We’re going out with a BANG!

SMUT! We’ll be performing during the Erotic Arts Festival Public Screening, which ALSO features some Canto V Films releases! (It’s our festival and you'll watch our smut damnit!). But seriously, we spend a lot of our energy and love on our smut, to bring to it the same sense of otherworldly delirium, passion, erotic energy and artistry that we bring to our performances. We love mashing multimedia components together, and will be performing to a backdrop of content from Canto V as well as other creators.

We’re passionate about creating ethical, safe but exploratory and edgy public erotic spaces, where we can engage in the erotic in both passive and active ways - we challenge the simplistic mainstream narratives of “harmful content” - where anything erotic is denigrated and our desires made monstrous.

There is so much scope in the erotic landscape when you broaden your definitions to take in all the possibility of BDSM, sacred sexuality practices and the range of media available, along with all the genders, sexualities, narratives, moods and desires. There is so much context, heart and AMAZING art that is damned in the eyes of many purely because it pertains to the erotic, to the primal, to our lusts.

Temple of ASS Performance

Finally, our last performance will be at the Temple of ASS, part of the ASSFest S25 Weekend Immersion. Entry to the Temple event is strictly for attendees of the Immersion to help create and maintain a safe container which we will have spent the day of workshops constructing and coregulating in. We apologise to any who wish to be in attendance for this performance.

The culmination of the week, we’ll be dropping deep into our heart and soul space to bring something very special. We’ll be taking a break from ASSfest for 2026, as part of our recovery and recuperation process. It’s been a long run of nearly back to back large scale events, and it’s worn us out in some pretty fundamental ways.

We will be celebrating our five years together with a very intimate and very edgy performance… Content warnings will be issued closer to the date, but expect edges, physical as well as mentally and emotionally, and expect a hell of a lot of nudity and shamelessness.

One of our other (biggest) projects ASSFest opened on Friday night, and she’s a glorious beast. If you haven’t checked out the schedule now’s the time, we have 33 educators holding 38 spaces, 10 performers, 25 films and a bucketload of pressies happening over eight venues across the Inner North of Naarm.

It has been a wild weekend of artistry, music and sex magics at Sydney’s Flesh Rituals & Siren Songs, with the air thick with sound and the flesh willing and writhing…

Our ritual with Enryka, an amazingly soulful artist & our beloved sister in Craft saw ropes entwined with the flesh of Eve and nature, with Enryka’s dark griefs and fierce undaunted voice, creating an ephemeral floating moment - both fleeting and eternal in the void.

There was shadow and flame, dropping into ancestral wilds and a tender, brimming connection between all three in the circle. All opening, all embracing and all encompassing, all others dropped away in the precious moments that we shared on the stage.

It’s a complicated topic, but firstly, social media - with all the negatives associated with it - still provides an online gathering place for teenagers to find and build community. Raising the minimum age to SIXTEEN is depriving a massive amount of young people of a space to gather, create and express themselves.

It’s another case of a sledgehammer where a scalpel is needed, as much as we despise online bullying, the exploitation of minors and the numerous other harms that can come with being online. But it’s a space that calls for education and nuance, not a wholesale age restriction.

Also, it means you’re now going to need to provide government ID to use social media, which means the end of a safe space for those who may need anonymity for a HOST of reasons. Yes, it means trolls can hide behind anonymity, but also survivors of abuse, violence, political asylum seekers, and yes, sex workers can exist in a space without fear of being doxxed or attacked in real life.

There’s so much more we could say about this, about the infantilisation of culture, the removal of agency from young people and parents in making decisions about their children’s access, the stifling of online voices, what this means for digital security and identity theft, the misuse of private data for corporate gain, what this means on a global level as a precedent is set, that as safer spaces are removed people will move into more unregulated, unmonitored, unsafe spaces, what this means for access to a variety of materials and sites online for EVERYONE and their identity / privacy etc. There are many vocal commentators online with varying degrees of knowledge on the matter, and there’s YOU - with your own perceptions, views and experience.

OZKINKFEST RITUALS

Another OzKinkFest has passed, and we staged one of our most ambitious rituals yet… A cybernetic romance between robots in love Eve X and Nest of Ropes, with Drone Sai running their shibari.exe program, the possibilities of entanglement between two flesh sleeves and wiring explored.

It was an absolute delight to dance in this entanglement, an exploration of tensions, connections and the aching distance between our orbital paths.

Such a pleasure to explore our connection with our beautiful friend Nest of Ropes, and a perfect way to farewell them from Naarm as they head over the Tasman to the southern island. <3

SMUTCLUB - BLIND DEVOTIONS

An exploration of multi media modalities, embracing the delirium.

Appropriately for our performance at a Porn film festival, we revisited and remixed one of our first films that we created, a short, surreal journey and exploration called “The Summoning - Blind Devotions” and projected it on the big screen as we performed our ritual in the dancing lights and shadows; photons entering the dance with our ropes and flesh.

A deep and intimate exploration and manifestation of the experience of Eve’s visual impairment, this one is especially deep for us.

We’ll be releasing a redux of Blind Devotions through our porn imprint Canto V Films in the months to come, and the final cut will contain layers of footage over time, space and all the variations of ourselves that emerged through the process.

OZKINKFEST is coming up once more, and we’ve got a very special ritual in store for you. We’ve always dreamed of more collaborative rituals with those who burn as we do - we’ve had some in the past where we’ve drawn others in, such as the Menage A Trois ritual at the Domina Parties FIERCE Soiree in 2022, and our 2024 performance at BlackListed Club’s HALO with four other ritual sacrifices. But until now we’ve not performed with another equal collaborator in ritual crimes…

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve paired up with Nest.of.Ropes for our upcoming OzKinkFest ritual! Nest of Ropes has been a performer at a number of The Soft Machine’s SEX ROPE & ROCK’N’ROLL shows, and a good friend. We’ve been dancing in the ropes together in preparation for our show at the Fetish Expo on 12 October, and the flames have definitely been fed…

Without giving away too much, what we can say is that bodies will entwine, flesh sliding over flesh as Eve X and Nest of Ropes take flight under the flickering hands of Sai Jaiden Lillith*.

There’s something about dancing with ropes in the neon emblazoned shadows of a club, a meeting of ancient forms and modern tribe, that creates its own chaotic magic… writhing forms lit by the flickering of strobes and smoke machines instead of the flames of a communal fire. A liminal space, highlighting how far we’ve come and yet how close we are to those primal needs and desires of movement, flesh and connection.

And it’s OZKINKFEST SEASON! Pretty much Christmas for Melbourne kinksters. We’ll be performing at the Fetish Expo and After Party on the 14.10.23 and Klub Kunst on the 21.10.23. We’re always utterly delighted to be involved with OzKinkFest, it’s a huge celebration of and for community.

We’ll also be teaching four workshops as Sacred Primal Arts at the OzKinkFest workshop weekend on the 21+22.10.23. This weekend is a huge highlight, with LOTS of rope and many other cool and interesting knowledge shared by local and international educators.
